Fermoy
Fermoy
The Margaret River region is, in the opinion of Fermoy staff, one of the truly great wine regions in the world. With its coastal influences, picturesque landscapes and quality of climate and soils, it is a perfect location to produce the highest quality wines.
At Fermoy, the winery believes that appreciating wine is so much more than simply consuming a glass. With a fantastic team who embody the south-west way of life, Fermoy is relaxed, down to earth and passionate about great wine. These qualities are important to Fermoy staff when creating a memorable cellar door experience that reflects its brand and stunning reputation.
Offering a selection of grazing foods available to purchase at the cellar door, such as cheese, crackers and cured meats, you can have a picnic and relax on this gorgeous, spawling estate with a glass of wine.
The winery also has an abundance of awards to match the quality of its wines, including most recently its 2021 Reserve Chardonnay being awarded ‘Best Australian White’ at the 2023 International Wine Challenge. This wine also won a gold medal at the very same awards show, making it a true standout in the winery’s collection.
Fermoy Estate was established in 1985 by John and Beryl Anderson. It was named in honour of one of John Anderson’s ancestors, a Scottish-born businessman who acquired part of Fermoy Estate, just north of Cork, Ireland. The purpose-built winery was built in 1987 and the first vintage was produced in 1988. In 1999, the estate was purchased by Dutch/Swiss businessman Hans Hulsbergen and most of the winery’s output was exported to Europe.
In December of 2010, Perth brothers Aaron and John Young purchased the estate. Fermoy is now proud to be a Western Australian-owned and -operated business, providing outstanding wines and unsurpassed service that, together, deliver premium value.
Tasting Notes
⇐ 2021 Reserve Chardonnay
Its aroma has a lovely balance of white blossom perfume, ripe fruits (peach, custard apple and grapefruit) and complex notes of toasted cashew, lemon cream, crushed shells and sulphide funk. It has a lovely weight of stone fruits, grapefruit, frangipani and brioche.
⇐ 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon
Medium to full-bodied, this wine shows an abundance of black fruit sweetness on the mid-palate, with classical cassis and black olive notes to the fore. Savoury notes of tobacco leaf and dried herbs combine with hints of raspberry, dark chocolate and graphite to add depth and complexity. A refreshing acid line provides poise and length, while an array of fine, earthen tannin provides structure and form.
⇐2017 Vintage Brut Premier
Made in the traditional method, this wine has spent over four years on lees in bottle prior to disgorgement. This extended contact time allows for more complex characters and textures to evolve, with brioche, curd, oyster shell and flint complementing delicate citrus and berry fruit notes.
⇐ Estate Rose 2022
Vibrant fruits of redcurrant, rosehip and pink grapefruit on the front palate lead into some more textural notes of nougat, cashew and Turkish delight before a soft, lemon curd acid line ensures a long, textural and mouth-watching finish. Its amora is of wild strawberry, redcurrant, rose water and lemon blossom.
