Juniper Estate

Juniper Estate is a renowned producer of premium wines nestled in the stunning Wilyabrup sub-region of Margaret River. This picturesque area boasts a unique maritime influence, ancient soils and a beautiful landscape, making it an ideal setting for exceptional wine production. Founded in 1998 by the late Roger Hill and his wife Gillian Anderson, Juniper Estate traces its roots back to 1973 when the vineyard was initially planted by Henry and Maureen Wright. The estate encompasses 9.56 hectares of vines on-site, complemented by an additional 24.75 hectares on two other owned vineyards.

Specialising in cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay, Juniper Estate produces a comprehensive range of wines annually, some exclusive to the cellar door. Committed to sustainable practices, the winery is certified under the ‘Sustainable Winemaking Australia’ initiative. Over the years, Juniper Estate has garnered numerous accolades, including the prestigious inaugural Wine of Provenance Trophy at the Margaret River Wine Show for its exceptional cabernet vintages from 2004, 2008 and 2014. For those seeking other local speciality delicacies, Juniper Estate also offers Bahen & Co’s artisanal chocolates from Margaret River.

Juniper Estate embodies a philosophy that blends heritage, authenticity and innovative thinking, striving to create wines that reflect the elegance and sophistication of the Margaret River region. Each bottle captures the essence of its origin, vintage and variety, showcasing the passion of the winemaking team and inviting shared enjoyment in great company. The cellar door, surrounded by charming cottage gardens and positioned in one of the region’s founding vineyards, offers a serene setting next to the Wilyabrup Brook. Visitors can unwind at picnic tables beneath mature peppermint trees, enjoying a dog-friendly space. During cooler months, guests can sip wine by a cosy log fire or book a seated tasting with knowledgeable, friendly hosts.

While Juniper Estate specialises in the regional stars of cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay, it also crafts intriguing alternatives like fiano and award-winning tempranillo. Wines can be conveniently purchased through the website or via membership in the wine club, with exclusive museum releases and large-format bottles available at the cellar door, ensuring that every experience is memorable and accessible.

Tasting Notes

Juniper Cornerstone Wilyabrup Cabernet Sauvignon
⇐ Cornerstone Wilyabrup Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

This single-vineyard wine comes from Juniper Estate’s dry-grown original plantings established in 1973. It is complex, concentrated and layered, with a very long finish. The wine is celebrated for its enticing aromas of dark fruits, bay leaf, cedar and hints of violets. Integrated oak and silky tannins enhance its overall character and it will reward extended cellaring.

Cornerstone Karridale Vineyard Chardonnay
⇐ Cornerstone Karridale Vineyard Chardonnay

Sourced from Juniper Estate’s southern vineyard in Forest Grove, this medium to full-bodied wine showcases intensity, texture, persistence and balance. It offers an elegant profile with citrus and mineral flavours, complemented by hints of spice and nutty notes. The wine features a refined, linear style with crisp acidity and a long finish, making it a superb candidate for cellaring.

Juniper Canvas Fiano
⇐ Canvas Fiano

This wine is another single-vineyard offering from Juniper Estate’s closely planted Karridale site. Crafted in a vibrant, bright and textural style, it features flavours of pear and stone fruit, complemented by spice and savoury, saline nuances. Refreshing and lively, it pairs wonderfully with a variety of dishes, from salt and pepper squid to Pad Thai.

Canvas Tempranillo
⇐ Canvas Tempranillo

This blend is made from five Tempranillo clones, with a touch of Graciano, crafted in the lighter Crianza style, using traditional large-format barrels. The wine is bright and varietally expressive, presenting rich, dense flavours of raspberry, cherry and spice, with a savoury edge, subtle background oak and fine, well integrated tannins.
