Evoi Wines

Evoi Wines

Evoi Wines began in 2007 with two barrels of chardonnay. Since its inception, the winery has gained a reputation as being one of the finest boutique wineries in the Margaret River region. Just a few of its many accolades, Evoi Wines is now a 5 Red Star Rated Halliday winery, alongside being awarded ‘Western Australian Winery of the Year’ at the 2015 Melbourne International Wine Show.

Located just north of the Margaret River township, Evoi Wines has grown to incorporate a beautiful cellar door alongside its fully functioning winery. Although it has grown, the winery remains a very small family business with founder and owner Nigel Ludlow at the helm. The core values remain the same and Nigel continues to be the hands-on winemaker, passionate about producing wines with character that reflect their unique regionality.

In the heart of Margaret River, quality fruit is the result of proximity to the ocean, incredible soil types and a perfect climate allowing for the Evoi Wines to produce of some of Margaret River’s most iconic varietals. Sauvignon blanc semillon, chardonnay, and cabernet sauvignon are the leaders of Evoi Wines’ range, but the malbec, bottled as a single varietal, is also of phenomenal quality and not to be missed.

A visit to Evoi Wine’s cellar door promises a real working winery onsite, expansive lawns, children’s play equipment and the opportunity to taste some of the winery’s exclusive small batch reserve wines that can’t be found outside of the cellar door.

The winery takes pride in its winery tours, offering a behind the scenes look at the winemaking process and giving visitors to the cellar door the opportunity to taste wine straight from the barrel. Patrons of the winery tours will have a chance to follow the wine through different stages of the winemaking process as they taste and learn about a grape’s journey from the vine to the bottle.

The curtain will lift and you will be exposed to some incredible wines and winemaking insights as Evoi Wines’ founder Nigel takes you on a journey of wine like no other. His quirky sense of humour paves the way for an enjoyable behind the scenes tour of the wine making process, with the option of enjoying a grazing platter alongside the wines at the end of the experience. Following your guided tasting and discussion, leave the cellar door with a newfound understanding and appreciation of Evoi Wines’ winemaking process.

Tasting Notes

2022 Sauvignon Blanc Semillon
⇐ 2022 Sauvignon Blanc Semillon

This wine is full of character with aromas of gooseberry, capsicum, passionfruit, guava, and green bean, interlaced with a barrel ferment complexity. The intense palate retains all these characters with the semillon and wild ferment portion adding structure, complexity, and enhancing the very long finish.

2018 Reserve Chardonnay
⇐ 2018 Reserve Chardonnay

Ripe pineapple, peach, nectarine, grapefruit peel, and fig, with oatmeal and toffee, cashew and hazelnut. A hint of toast combined with savoury notes from yeast autolysis, and a beautiful reductive flint note. The palate combines all the above characters with a natural fullness and acidity, which perfectly balances the wine. The creamy structure and subtle French oak enhance the very, very long finish.

2019 Cabernet Sauvignon
⇐ 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon

Aromas of bright cassis and blueberry are supported by plum, black olive, fresh tobacco leaf, bell pepper, bay leaf and chocolate notes. The palate is complex and velvety, with the fruit and savoury notes balanced with a seamless finish of ripe tannins and integrated French oak.

2020 Malbec
⇐ 2020 Malbec

Aromas of bright cassis, mulberry, blackberry, and black cherry are supported by liquorice, cigar box, cocoa notes, and a hint of pepper and spice. The palate is rich and complex, with the fruit and savoury notes balanced with a seamless finish of supple tannins and integrated French oak.
