A Place To Relax And Enjoy
Lentedal was established in 2009 by David and Janet Hann. The name Lentedal pays homage to Janet’s great-great-uncle, who in 1919 bought a hobby farm in the Cape of South Africa, to provide a home for his nieces who were orphaned due to the Spanish Flu that tragically swept around the world at that time. Lentedal translates from Dutch as “Spring Valley”, and to the winery it describes a place of safety, a place to rest, relax and to enjoy the beauty that comes from the company of family and friends.
Lentedal property spans 50-acres with 15-acres under vine. Lentedal boasts an array of alternate grape varieties such as nebbiolo, tempranillo and pinot gris, while also home to classic noble varieties such as chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, shiraz and muscat with original plantings dating back to the 1980’s.
What makes Lentedal vineyard unique is the rich and fertile clay soils known as ‘Marybrook soils’ that run through the property. Marybrook soil is a rich red/ brown clay with very high inherent fertility allowing our vines to thrive all year round with minimal input other than mother nature.
David tirelessly tends to the vineyard; he is out there nurturing the vines every day and night of the year to ensure they have the optimal chance to provide Lentedal with incredible grapes for harvest.
When you visit our cellar door and café you will enjoy a warm greeting from Janet, effortlessly showcasing the wines at our cosy cellar door where guests can also enjoy one of our famous wood-fired oven pizzas. Afterwards they can then take a stroll through our vineyard greeted by an array of farm animals including horses, camels, pigs, dogs, cats, peacocks, geese and guinea fowl.
