Brookland Valley & Houghton Cellar Door
Brookland Valley & Houghton Cellar Door
Award winning Brookland Valley was established in 1984 by Malcolm and Dee Jones on twenty stunning hectares of land, where outstanding wines with unique characteristics considered benchmarks in the region have been produced ever since.
Located in the Margaret River wine region, the unique vineyard of Brookland Valley is situated on the Wilyabrup Brook, less than two kilometers before the brook reaches the Indian Ocean. The proximity to these water bodies has a profound influence on the weather patterns in the vineyard: the cooling sea breeze keeps the temperatures mild during summer to allow the grapes to ripen slowly, deepening the flavour and character of the fruit.
Margaret River is known for exceptional chardonnay, aromatic blends and cabernet sauvignon, so naturally, these are some of Brookland Valley’s signature styles. The quality is proven by the notable awards bestowed upon the estate. Most recently, the Brookland Valley 2020 Reserve Chardonnay and Brookland Valley 2020 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon took out two prestigious Platinum awards at the Decanter World Wine Awards.
The cellar door at Brookland Valley overlooks Wilyabrup Brook, a magnificent focal point of the vineyard. The cellar door offers the full range of Brookland Valley & Houghton wines for tasting and sale alongside a number of unique, personalised tasting experiences: match premium chardonnay with cheese or expertly selected reds with dark chocolate, or see yourself picnicking on the estate’s expansive lawns with a beautiful grazing menu of your choice.
The estate’s restaurant – Flutes – is one of Margaret River’s renowned fine dining destinations. Sharp service and gorgeous natural surrounds distinguish the Flutes experience. Executive Chef, Francois Morvan, has used a striking blend of his French training and an affinity for Western Australia’s abundance of fresh produce to create a continually developing menu that matches perfectly with Brookland Valley wines.
From the beginning, the Sicilian shepherd Daphnis playing the flute has been depicted on this wine maker’s labels and can be found overlooking the Wilyabrup Brook in a picturesque location on the estate. Inspired by Daphnis, Brookland Valley wines strive to deliver artistry and poetry in every bottle.
⇐ Brookland Valley 2020 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
A bouquet of moderate intensity with the classic notes of cigar box, plum, dried bay leaf, cassis and thyme. The French oak maturation adds vanillin and savory complexity to the nose. The subtle oak balances perfectly with the fruit’s power and precision. The long, fine tannins of this wine provide effortless length. Drink now or cellar for 10 or more years.
⇐ Brookland Valley Estate 2021 Chardonnay
This wine is pale straw in appearance with intense, bright aromatics of white peaches and nectarine, pink grapefruit, ginger and limey citrus. This is followed by subtle hints of flint, grilled hazelnuts, cashews and fresh brioche. The palate shows a medium to full body and the wine has a lovely texture with a fine acid line that supports the long length of flavour.
⇐Houghton Gladstones 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon
This scarlet-hued wine has an intense bouquet with distinct characteristics of the Batley vineyard. Aromas of cassis, plum and milk chocolate combined with bay leaf, thyme and cigar box notes. French oak maturation enhances the complex bouquet with vanillin, pastry and subtle spice. The palate is full bodied and highly structured. The palate is fruit driven with fine firm tannins.
⇐ Houghton 2020 Premium Shiraz
Vibrant dark red with a youthful purple hue. Highly aromatic with enticing aromas of violets, mulberries and boysenberries with lifted cardamom and white pepper spices. French oak maturation adds layers of coffee and vanillin. The vibrant and supple palate shows blueberry and cherry characters with pepper and vanillin oak spice. The palate is long and supple with very fine tannin and exceptional length.
