Capel Vale Wines
Capel Vale Wines
The stunning Capel Vale Wines was established in 1974 by Dr Peter Pratten, meaning that 2024 will excitingly be the winery’s fiftieth year of operations. The vineyard was a pioneer of multi-regional viticulture and winemaking in Western Australia, paving the way for the bustling wine scene that we all know and love today.
It’s no surprise that these talented winemakers and viticulturists have secured many awards in their time, including but not limited to the Wine of Show WA Whispering Hill Riesling 2021, the Best Riesling Trophy, the Best Great Southern White Wine Trophy and Gladstones Trophy, the Regional Riesling 2021 Tasmania Trophy, the Black Label Chardonnay 2021 International Wine Challenge Trophy, the Scholar Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 Decanter Gold, and the Whispering Hill Shiraz 2020 Decanter Gold.
Capel Vale Wines produces an impressive fifteen to twenty wines each year, with seven hectares of vines on-site at the Capel location. There is no denying that this winery is a cornerstone Western Australian winemaker.

Tasting Notes
⇐ Whispering Hill Mount Barker Riesling 2021
Pale straw colour, bright and youthful. Aromas of lemon rind, white flowers, nettles, talc and west stone. Fine, delicate and focused lemon, lime, minerality and racy, linear acidity. Very pure and precise.
⇐ Black Label Chardonnay 2020
Elegant, stylish and complex, this wine shows white flesh stone fruit, lemon peel, nougat and roasted cashew characters on the nose, leading to a concentrated palate displaying fine texture and focused mouthfeel. Brilliantly structured by bright acidity, finishing impressively long and engaging.
⇐ The Scholar Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
Medium-deep crimson. Lovely blackcurrant, roasted chestnut and tobacco leaf aromas. Inky deep blackcurrant, blackberry fruits, fine grainy leafy textures and integrated chestnut and vanilla notes. Finishes claret firm with ample dark fruits. Lovely density, volume and vinosity.
⇐ Whispering Hill Mount Barker Shiraz 2020
Earthy, herbal and savoury aromas with hints of dry spice. The palate is broad and rich, again earthy, featuring flavours of wild raspberry, perfumed blueberries, violets, herbs and spices. The abundant oak is polished and ripe, the tannins firm, and there is good freshness and potential for aging.
