Gilbert Wines

Family run, owned and operated, Gilberts Wines’ historic estate’s first vines were planted at the vineyard in 1985. In 2014, the fourth generation of Gilberts returned to the family business with two of the founders’ three sons stepping into roles on the winery. With big shoes to fill, both Matthew and Clinton have set about putting their own marks on the winery. Each wine in the Gilbert’s collection has a unique story behind it, with the 3 Devils range named after founders Jim and Bev’s three sons and the JMG range named in memoriam of Jim Gilbert, who sadly passed away from MND in 2017.

The vines at Gilberts Wines draw from the rich soils of Mount Barker in the Great Southern region of Western Australia and exhibit the terroir of this exceptional region. Across twenty-four acres of vineyard, Gilberts Wines produces fantastic riesling, shiraz, chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon. The vineyard has been planted on a gravely loam soil base with warm sunny days and cool nights during the growing season, the perfect recipe to produce excellent fruit and excellent wines.

With views of stunning landscapes across the valley out to the Porongurup National Park and mountain range, Gilberts Wines’ unique cellar door is built inside a rustic, renovated old apple packing shed. The building was originally used by the first two generations of Gilberts and retains its history and character today, creating a unique environment for you to sample and enjoy award winning wines.

The wine café was added to the cellar door in 2003 and was the first cellar door in the region to have a café and restaurant attached to a cellar door. The café endeavors to use fresh produce, including some home grown from the culinary garden on site. Guests are welcome to wander throughout the property and are encouraged to bring their dogs to frolic the expansive estate alongside them, taking in the gorgeous views.

Gilberts Wines ships all over Australia, and its wine club offers free freight plus exclusive discounts at the cellar door. Wine club members also receive the perk of first access to the ever-popular Burning of the Canes event, held at Gilberts Wines annually each September.
