PAYING HOMAGE TO THE PAST

The unveiling of the new indulgent wine by Brookland Valley and Houghton Cellar Door is a thoughtful tribute to the winery’s rich history and winemaking heritage.

Named EV37, this exquisite wine pays homage to the longstanding relationship Houghton Wines has had with the chenin blanc variety, dating back to 1937 when the legendary Jack Mann produced the first vintage of Houghton White Classic, originally known as White Burgundy. The inaugural vintage was entered in the Melbourne Wine Awards, where a judge famously remarked, “this wine looks like a fine White Burgundy,” leading to its distinctive name.

Sourced from the Yallingup subregion of Margaret River, the grapes are handpicked and meticulously sorted, ensuring only the finest fruit is selected. They undergo whole bunch pressing before being placed in large-format oak barrels for indigenous fermentation, allowing the wine to develop its complex flavours naturally. Each bottle of EV37 tells a story, not just of the land from which it comes but of the tradition, craftsmanship and passion that define the Houghton legacy.

This wine is a narrative in a glass, connecting the past to the present and inviting wine lovers to be part of its ongoing journey.
