Woody Nook Wines

Small and welcoming, Woody Nook Wines and The Nookery Café are nestled amongst native bushland in the Margaret River wine region, about fifteen kilometres from the town centre. Emerging from humble origins, the winery has become a pioneer within the industry and is worthy of the attention it’s garnered.

Possessing sixteen hectares of vines, the team produces a broad range of styles to suit everyone’s tastes. Amongst their selection is the winery’s flagship Gallagher’s Choice Cabernet Sauvignon, alongside emerging styles like tempranillo and fume blanc. Their much loved fortified Nooky Delight, remains a popular drawcard.

Visitors can get the Margaret River experience at the Nookery Café. Seating up to 120 people, you’ll be set against an impressive backdrop of jarrah and marri forest. With rustic, cosy charm both inside and out, guests can enjoy the all-weather pergola while children play on the swings in the grassy area.

Woody Nook Wines’ production processes 50-100 tonnes of estate-grown fruit annually, producing fourteen different wine styles. Purchased in 1978 by Jeff and Wynn Gallagher, they planted the first cuttings in 1982. 1987 was marked by the first crush with the building constructed the year before from timber and mud bricks. Since their retirement, the winery was bought by Peter and Jane Bailey, who became the proud new owners in May of 2000.

Its signature Gallagher’s Choice Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the most awarded wines in the region, having taken out the Warren Winiarski Trophy for best Cabernet Sauvignon at the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) along with numerous other national and international trophies and gold medals.

If you’re looking for accommodation, Woody Nook House is a cosy property with unique rustic charm, overlooking the vineyard on one side and the winery’s magnificent forest backdrop on the other. They cater to both social and business functions, available to book online or via phone call.

Tasting Notes

2016 Cabernet Sauvignon
⇐ 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon

Known as ‘Gallagher’s Choice’, this is Woody Nook Wines’ flagship red, named for the late Jeff and Wynn Gallagher. A classic, full-bodied Margaret River cabernet sauvignon, it is vibrant and complex with a nose of blackcurrant, eucalypt and well-integrated French oak. The palate of dark berry fruits, herbs and cedary oak is tightly structured by fine grained tannins and acidity
